Looking down on Ollantaytambo from the ruins. |
Looking out from the ruins toward a mountain that contains a storage area for food. The Incas built it high because of the cooler temperatures. It's visible near the bottom of the mountain. |
These terraces were used primarily for support for the temple structures |
A view looking down on the terraces |
This shows almost the entire town of Ollantaytambo - only 1,000 people live here. |
Some of the interesting rock formations that the Incas used. |
Additional storage areas built on a neighboring mountain |
This picture shows the huge size of some of the rocks, as well as the quarry that they came from. The quarry is the lighter area high in the mountains in the background of this picture. |
This is one of many rocks that never got placed (because the Spanish invaded and destroyed much of the temple). It's sitting on a ramp, and this was how the Incas moved these huge stones. Hundreds of people were used to push and pull the rocks up ramps. |
