Our first Cambodian lunch - a variety of stir fried vegetables and meats, a baked fish and some fish soup. This is a place where the locals in Siem Reap eat, and our total bill (including 2 lunches for our guide and driver) came to a total of $8.00! |
Sculptures of demons lining the entry to one of the gates of Angkor Thum |
A close-up of one of the demons. Most of these have been extensively damaged by war. |
The entry gate into Angkor Thum (which means "large capital"). Note the Buddha faces carved into the towers - these appear in all the towers inside Angkor Thum. |

A side view of one of the entry towers. This gives a good perspective of the Buddha face. |
A pick-up truck full of monks on their way into Angkor Thum. |
The Bayon Temple inside Angkor Thum |
Another view of the Bayon Temple |
One of the many bas-reliefs that we saw today. These all depict various elements of Khmer life in the 12th Century, and have been important sources of information for researchers. |
