Sunrise over our Kidero campsite |
Setting off with Asani for our morning hunting trip |
Asani is showing Nassibu how this feather serves as a wind indicator for him while hunting. |
We were joined today by Hamisi, who is Asani's son. In addition to the bow and arrows, he's carrying an axe used for collecting honey. He is wearing the decorated skin from an impala. |
Checking out a hollowed log placed here by the Datogas (a neighboring tribe) in the hopes that bees will come make it their home. |
Using pegs to climb a tree in search of honey. |
Checking out another tree for honey |
Asani is stalking a dik-dik that we sighted in the clearing that appears in the distance. It ran away before he could get off a shot. |
Making fire by rapidly spinning this pole over a piece of wood. This created a small spark, and then dry grass was used to quickly start a nice fire that Asani used for smoking some tobacco. |
Paula tried hard, but without success... |
David didn't have much luck either. |
David did have fun trying to start his own fire using a burning branch from Asani's fire, but still with no luck. The drawings in this cave were painted by Hadzas over 100 years ago. |
